We have been selected to be a formal warm space for Southwark Council.

Southwark's warm spaces provide free, welcoming community environments where individuals can stay warm, enjoy free refreshments, and access support services during the colder months.

Warm spaces in Southwark are community initiatives designed to help residents who may be struggling with heating costs during winter. These spaces are open to everyone and offer a variety of services, including:

• Free Hot Drinks and Food: Many warm spaces provide complimentary hot beverages and meals to help individuals stay nourished and comfortable.

• Cost of Living Advice: Some locations offer guidance and support related to managing living costs, including energy bills and budgeting. 

• Social Activities: Participants can engage in various activities such as bingo, creative writing, and meditation, fostering a sense of community and connection. 

Locations and Accessibility

There are over thirty warm spaces across Southwark, including council libraries, community centers, and voluntary sector sites. These venues are equipped to provide a warm environment where residents can relax and socialize. Notable locations include:

• Libraries: All libraries in Southwark are participating in the warm spaces initiative, offering comfortable seating and free refreshments during their operating hours. 

• Community Hubs: Various community organizations, such as the South London Mission and Blackfriars Settlement, are also involved, providing additional services and activities for older residents and families. 

Impact and Support

The warm spaces initiative has been particularly important during the cost of living crisis, with over 1,000 residents utilizing these spaces last year. The program has received funding from Southwark Council to ensure its continuation and expansion, helping to alleviate the challenges faced by many households.
